Q&A with Shin Se Gae

How did you start playing football?

I was always a kid who loved sports, but it was the 2002 World Cup that made me certain I wanted to become a football player.

The problem was, my school didn't have a football team. I didn't want to transfer schools, so I started playing football later than most - after entering middle school. It was a lonely battle.

Becoming a professional footballer requires genuine passion, hard work, and a fair amount of luck. That's why I always want to support and cheer on young players when I see them.

What's Suwon FC's playing style?

Our team plays very aggressively from defense to attack, which our fans really enjoy. We've had many memorable matches this year.

Unfortunately, we didn't make it to Final A, but we really want to secure 3 points in our home game to finish the season strong for our fans.

Your jersey numbers all include the number 3. Is there a special reason?

Yes, from my time at Suwon Samsung to now at Suwon FC, all my jersey numbers have included the number 3. I personally really like the number 3.

When I first joined Suwon Samsung, the number I received was 30. So when I returned to Suwon FC, I wanted to wear 30 again. It's a number that means a lot to me in many ways.

What's your most memorable episode from 10 years as a professional?

The support and cheering from fans is what I remember most. It gives me tremendous strength as a player. The warm words from fans - both at the stadium and through social media - motivate me to play even harder.

The reason I go to the stands and bow 90 degrees after every match is because I want to express my gratitude to the fans.

How do you prepare for injuries during matches?

As a center-back in our four-man defense, I'm on the shorter side. So I deliberately engage in more physical battles during heading duels and use my body more to prevent opponents from heading properly.

Thankfully, I haven't had too many injuries despite that. I don't have any special prevention methods, but I study my injury areas thoroughly to prevent future problems.

How did you discover WaveWear? Give us your honest product review.

After playing professionally for many years and getting older, my knees started feeling unstable. I used to tape my knees before matches, but the tape would keep falling off due to sweat, and it was annoying to keep reapplying it. So I started looking for products on my own and discovered WaveWear through social media.

I actually wear it every day during training. With other knee supports, they would slide down even during warm-ups, so I ended up not using them. But WaveWear is satisfying. The tension is great, and it holds my knee securely without being bothersome - it feels completely different.

Personally, I'm so satisfied with the product that I want to wear it during actual matches.
