How Wavewear Handles Lactic Acid Buildup

Evidence-Based Validation of Wavewear:

Clinical Testing Confirms Significant Muscle Fatigue Reduction Through Built-in Kinesiology Taping and Compression

Abstract

Muscle fatigue is a pressing issue that everyone around the world faces. Wavewear, Wave Company’s innovative functional sportswear brand, has been able to significantly reduce muscle fatigue in those who wear it. Clinical testing demonstrated that Wavewear reduced muscle fatigue by up to 35%, as measured through comparative lactic acid levels during and after exercise. This report outlines the methodology and findings of that study, confirming the performance-enhancing benefits of the Wavewear system.

Each subject had to receive a physical condition test and then rest for twenty minutes. They then wore their respective clothes for that day and entered a room held at controlled conditions (23° C +- .5° C & Humidity (50 +-10)%). The subjects would relax in this room for thirty minutes and then have their lactic acid measured in the last five minutes of the rest period. Then, they would exercise for thirty minutes and have their lactic acid measured every 5 minutes.

They then sat and recovered for thirty minutes, having their lactic acid measured every 5 minutes during this resting period. The lactic acid was measured through blood tests to ensure the most accurate results. Once all four tests were completed on different days, the subjects completed their tasks. All of the subjects chosen were very similar in age, height, and weight to control for certain variables in the test.

What is Lactic Acid?

Through these tests, lactic acid was measured because it is a material that causes the human body to feel fatigued and is generated when glycogen, which produces energy inside the body, decomposes as muscles are used.

It was found by numerous doctors and scientists that “mechanical performance gradually declined as the muscle accumulated large amounts of lactic acid” (Allen, 2004). A reduction in lactic acid leads to a decrease in the fatigue the body feels, which is why lactic acid was the primary figure being measured in these tests.

Results

The results of the tests can be seen above in Figure D. The results show that when the subjects performed the test with general compression wear clothing, the lactic acid levels were highest during the exercise tests, peaking at 9 mmol/L, then going back down to 4 mmol/L after resting for twenty minutes (Figure D).

When tested with the adhesive clothing, the lactic acid levels of the subjects dropped significantly, peaking at 7 mmol/L, and overall levels for the test were lower or the same as other clothing methods (Figure E). The most important fact to draw from this test is how lactic acid reacted during exercise when wearing adhesive clothing (Wavewear).

Once starting to exercise, the overall levels of lactic acid remained lower than all other methods, proving that using the adhesive clothing, or the now Wavewear clothing, is the best way to minimize lactic acid spikes and keep energy levels high throughout the exercise.

As seen above in Figure F, Wavewear, clothing that combines compression wear with adhesive kinesiology tape, is more effective in reducing lactic acid levels when exercising and recovering than the alternative methods tested, of only using compression wear, only using kinesiology tape, and using non-adhesive clothing.

Conclusion

Figure G represents the percentage decrease in muscle fatigue found by wearing Wavewear when performing exercise. This percentage decrease is explained above and based on the findings in the lactic acid levels amongst all test subjects.

The 35% decrease is compared to the lactic acid levels of those wearing Wavewear and the lactic acid levels of those who were wearing regular compression wear. This 35% decrease allows athletes and people performing in exercise to get that extra push at the end of their workout and continue to perform at a high level. If you usually get tired after 20 minutes of running, Wavewear will help reduce this feeling of tiredness and keep your muscles ready to keep going for another 6-7 minutes.
