Frequently Asked Questions

Are WaveWear's Activewear as 'technical' as the compression pieces?

Our kinesiology compression gear is the heart of WaveWear, delivering built‑in taping support for performance and recovery. To make it easy to outfit your whole session, we also created lightweight joggers, tops, underwear, and socks that are optimized to layer with our compression pieces, so you can move, warm up, and recover in a fully coordinated WaveWear system.

Are cotton socks okay for working out, or do I need synthetic?

It depends on the intensity. Our Athletic Socks use an 82% Cotton blend with Polyester and Polyurethane. Cotton feels soft and absorbs sweat well for moderate gym sessions, fitness, and rock climbing. However, for long-distance running or extremely sweaty conditions, cotton retains more moisture than pure synthetic fabrics. That said, our cotton blend includes polyester for faster drying and polyurethane for stretch and shape retention — so they perform significantly better than regular everyday cotton socks.

Will these socks help prevent blisters?

The 3mm cushioned sole absorbs impact at the heel and ball of the foot, while the elastic material holds the sock snugly around the ankle so it doesn't slip or bunch — two of the main causes of blisters during running and gym work. The crew length also protects the ankle from shoe-collar rubbing.

Can I return the socks or underwear if they don't fit?

Due to hygiene requirements, socks and underwear returns are more limited than other WaveWear products. Please check the sizing guide carefully before ordering. If you receive a defective item, contact customer service for a resolution.

What are the features of WaveWear kinesiology compression wear?

WaveWear taping compression wear features built-in kinesiology tape (AlignX™ technology) for semi-permanent support, medical-grade silicone taping, graduated compression panels, and targeted muscle and joint stabilization. These features help reduce fatigue, prevent injuries, and promote faster recovery.

What is kinesiology taping compression wear and how does it help?

Our taping compression wear combines two powerful sports technologies—kinesiology taping and compression—into a single, high-performance garment. Here is a breakdown of how it works.

The Power of Compression

The garment applies graduated pressure (typically 15–30 mmHg) to your muscles. This steady compression is designed to:

Increase blood flow and oxygen delivery.

Reduce muscle soreness and swelling.

Speed up post-exercise recovery.

The Advantage of Built-In Taping

Unlike standard sleeves, we embed kinesiology tape support directly into the fabric. This provides precise muscle and joint support for areas like your knees, calves, and arms during intense activity, which is critical for injury prevention.

The All-in-One Solution

By combining these two functions, you get the benefits of improved circulation and targeted stability in one easy-to-use garment, enhancing both your performance and your recovery.

How is WaveWear different from kinesiology tape?

WaveWear differs from traditional kinesiology tape by integrating medical-grade silicone taping directly into compression wear, providing continuous, semi-permanent support and compression without the need for separate taping. This offers the benefits of both kinesiology tape and graduated compression in one convenient garment.

WaveWear uses several advanced strategies and technologies in its compression sleeves to address and minimize the common downsides of compression wear:

Moisture-Wicking and Breathable Fabric:

The compression sleeves are made with technical, moisture-wicking materials that pull sweat away from the skin and allow for quick evaporation. This helps keep skin dry, reduces the risk of chafing, and prevents the buildup of sweat that can lead to rashes and discomfort.

Proper Fit and Sizing Guidance:

WaveWear emphasizes the importance of selecting the correct size to prevent excessive compression, which can cause restricted blood flow and discomfort. Detailed sizing guidelines help users choose a sleeve that delivers effective muscle support without being too tight or loose.

Smooth Seams and Strategic Paneling:

The design features smooth, flatlock seams and strategic paneling to minimize friction at high-contact zones, reducing redness and chafing even during intense or prolonged activity.

Hygiene and Skin Care Recommendations:

Users are advised to keep both their skin and the sleeves clean, shower before wearing, and ensure skin and garment are dry before use. Regular washing removes sweat and bacteria, further reducing irritation risk.

Use of Moisturizers and Barrier Creams:

WaveWear recommends applying fragrance-free moisturizer or anti-chafing cream to sensitive areas before use, creating a protective barrier that reduces friction and helps prevent dryness or irritation.

Monitoring and Breaks:

Users are encouraged to regularly check their skin for any signs of irritation, take breaks from wearing the sleeves, and rotate garments to allow skin recovery if needed.

How should I wash and care for WaveWear products? Will they last?

Yes, with proper care, WaveWear products can last a long time—some of our customers who purchased during our 2018 launch are still using their gear today.

To get the most out of your WaveWear, do not turn the garment inside out when washing. Always keep the silicone taping facing inward. While we recommend hand-washing in cold water with mild detergent for optimal longevity, many of our customers use machine washing without issue.

If using a washing machine, place the item in a laundry net and select a gentle cycle with cold water. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or high heat drying, as these may degrade the silicone taping or fabric over time.

By following these care instructions, you can preserve the performance and structure of your gear for years to come.
